What Profiles Do: The Perfect Coverage of Particularly Wide Joints

Küberit edge and expansion joint profile with fire protection

Wide edge joints by themselves are a challenge for the floor contractor. When one protects fire protection joints, for example, the regulations stipulate wide insulation strips made of mineral wool or mineral fibre. This can be a challenge for floor fitters because neither filler nor adhesive may be applied to these strips. As a result, the floor covering has no grip and sinks downward in the joint area. As a result, the joint between the wall and the floor covering automatically becomes larger. With the new Küberit edge joint profiles, types 985 G - 988 G and the expansion joint profiles 985 S - 988 S, wide fire protection joints up to 20 mm can be bridged safely and permanently for fully bonded floor coverings.

Cover 20 mm wide joints
No matter which floor covering the builder chooses - ceramic, resilient, textile or hardwood - the joint profiles for up to 2.5 mm, 3.0mm, 4.5mm, and 6.0 mm covering heights fit all types of fully bonded floor coverings. Like all products from the profile specialist, a smart application method is very important to Küberit.
On the one hand, mounting holes facilitate precise adjustment of the profile on the floor. On the other hand, the closed double-K punching on the outer edge allows them to be glued or plastered at a sufficient distance from the fire protection joint. The unpunched area is dimensioned in such a way that even wide joints of up to 20mm are optimally concealed without the profile sinking into the insulation material. The profile length of three meters also has advantages: even larger rooms can be installed quickly and with fewer edge joints. With a visible surface of 2.5mm, the edge joint profiles look even more elegant and also feature an additional option: They can alternatively be installed as surface-mounted skirting boards with floor inserts.

Not only practical and safe, but also elegant
Küberit also offers a solution for wide joints with the expansion joint profile design. They can be used to overlay floor covering joints of up to 40mm. By contrast, the visible width of the expansion joint profiles is extremely narrow at only 13 mm. The silicone joint is available in either grey or black as standard. Other colours are available on request. Since floor profiles are also subject to increasingly high design demands, Küberit has co-ordinated the appearance of both profiles and included them in the range in three design variants: natural, silver, and powder-coated in the trendy color black.
